Reforger FDC

In-game ballistics for Arma Reforger

Firing data from two clicks on the map

Reforger FDC is the fire direction step between the observer and the gun, running in a browser. Place the gun and the target, and the calculator returns the charge, the azimuth in mils, the elevation setting and the time of flight. It reads both heights from the map terrain itself.

A solution read off the app, not an example: the PandaMods M777 with M107 HE on Everon, gun at X4922 Y4868 and 89 m, target at X8000 Y2800 and 356 m. Range 3708 m, height difference +267 m, high trajectory.

The calculation screen: the Everon map, a line from the gun to the target, the solution above the map, coordinate and height fields
Map mode: the entry fields and terrain heights on the left, the solution and the map with the gun-to-target line on the right.

Two ways to solve the same problem

The first is the map. Gun and target are placed and dragged with the mouse, range, azimuth and height difference update as they move, and after the shot the correction loop takes the impact and returns the adjustment. Three maps ship with the project: Everon, Arland and Kolguyev.

The second is coordinates. When the map is not needed, or the position arrived over voice, both points are typed in and the heights are entered by hand. Same engine, same solution, and a manual height always wins over the automatic one.

Where the numbers come from

The tables were read off the game's or a mod's screen or measured by firing in game, rather than extracted from game or mod files. Every data pack shows which version it was taken from, who checked it and when. The vanilla mortars M252 and 2B14 were checked against the in-game tables, and the M777 howitzer from PandaMods was measured by the project and is used with the mod author's permission. Every map and table, with its author and the terms it is used on, is listed on the sources page.

Where the calculator refuses to answer

A refusal is an answer too, and a better one than a plausible number. The height correction is derived through the angle of fall, and below five degrees it stops being true: there the app names the reason instead of substituting an approximation. A pack without a verified wind model marks the entered correction as unavailable and keeps it out of the solution. The dispersion ring is drawn only from the numbers of the chosen solution; if the pack does not state dispersion, there is no ring, and no zero stands in for it. The profile between gun and target shows terrain, not the shell's trajectory and not whether a vehicle could drive it.

What ships with it

Five guns, split by where their numbers come from: the vanilla mortars M252 and 2B14, whose numbers belong to the game itself, and three systems from mods: the M777 from PandaMods, measured by the project, plus the BM-21 Grad and the 2B9 Vasilek from Tactical Flava, read from the mods' own in-game boards. The mod author is named where the gun is chosen, not only in a folded panel. Several guns can be computed together in battery mode, and seven maps with terrain are built in. Your own map or your own ballistic pack can be added from a local file, and nothing leaves the device when you do.

It works offline and without an account

The app opens in a browser and installs to the home screen like a normal one. Calculation, mission history and the interface work offline; tiles of the built-in maps need the network the first time they are shown and come from the cache after that. History stays on the device and is never uploaded. The interface is translated into five languages, and the gunnery terms come from doctrinal sources rather than from guesswork.

What this calculator is not

It covers in-game ballistics for specific versions of Arma Reforger and of the mods, and nothing else. It contains no real military firing tables and is not suitable for real artillery, for training or for preparation of any kind. This is a fan project for a game.
